Belgium: During our visit to the Friedrich-Elvers-Schule in Heide we were able to follow the training of social skills in a classroom. The students were encouraged to be empathic towards their peers and to express their feelings in a correct communicative way. This training was done by means of the ‘Faustlos’ toolbox. We got motivated to invest some time in doing research into this program to find out that it is based on an American program ‘Second Step’, and that it features developmentally appropriate ways to teach core social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management and problem solving.
