Germany: Social Skills
The term Faustlos is symbolic of a violent conflict and dealing with emotionally difficult situations and could be translated with „fistless“.
The aim of the program is
• the omission of physical violence
• to deal fairly with each other
• to do this on a verbal level.
The U.S. Second Step program was transmitted by Manfred Cierpka at the University of Heidelberg. Now it contains
• age-appropriate content for kindergartens , day care centers and elementary and secondary education.
• conflict situations that need to be acted out
• discussion on the behavior on the basis of images.
Key aspects of Faustlos are initially social skills, like the management of feelings or active listening. The fundamental desire is to a establish a constructive solution to the benefit of everyone (win-win strategy). In addition to a training to improve self-perception and the perception of emotions, there is a focus on
• body language (facial expressions, gestures, voice)
• the way of thinking about other participants will be sharpened
• the identification, whether someone's behavior is intentionally or accidentally
• the positive effects of Faustlos, which lead to a fundamental strengthening of social skills and the ability to brainstorm.
