Denmark "Student Assessemenrt"

At "De Schuit" we were introduced to - and saw in praxis - student assessment schemes. We are going to bring these ideas back to Denmark. Next year at Ullerødskolen we have an all school pedagogical focus on applying measures for learning as demanded in a new school law. As teachers in the Danish school system we are expected to match a set of aim for each topic taught - and make sure all students meets these aims. The set of aims can vary from student to student.

We got motivated by the possibility of using the assessment schemes seen in Belgium as a way to meet these individual goals for teaching. In "De Schuit" a fixed number of hours during a school week was set aside for the students´ individual work with their assessment schemes.

In this "individual work time" we see the possibility to differentiate topics taught in class, so students based on their different abilities can meet the criteria and aims set for the class teaching. Especially do we like the idea of student involvement in setting these individual goals at their assessment schemes; e.g. in English teaching under a topic "American Extremes" some might decide to be more active in the oral part while others might decide to strengthen their vocabulary. They will have two different tasks under the subject English "American Extremes" on their scheme.

The group that went to Belgium have already held a short introduction for the rest of the staff, so we look forward to adapt and develop this idea to the Danish school system.
