Our youngest students have for several years participated in an environmental project called “fra haver til maver” (from garden to mouth”).

This project is part of a communal program on relitybased education and is run by an ecological food producer “AArstiderne” and “Fredensborg Kommune”.

Every Thursday the class leaves school and has their teaching on a farm. Here they have a small lot of land where they can follow a garden´s year go by. All practical work in the garden is mixed with teaching on e.g. plant growth, insect that have a beneficial effect and other natural science themes.

The class starts in early spring where they prepare their garden for planting, gradually they plant crops and in autumn the garden is ready for harvest. During this summer period students also have the opportunity to prepare food with a professional cook – of course with their own vegetables from the garden.

Alongside with taking care of the garden students are offered a range of thematic courses such as:

• Ecology
• Waterways
• Food chains
• Cut and build your own shelter in the wood
